Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if my existing doorbell wiring is compatible?

Most Ring wired models need 16–24 volts AC. If you’re not sure, text me a photo of your transformer or doorbell chime and I’ll let you know.

Can I use a Ring Doorbell if I don’t have existing wiring?

Yes. Battery-powered models like the Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Gen) or the Ring Battery Doorbell Plus are made for homes without doorbell wiring.

What’s the difference between Ring wired and battery models?

Wired models use your home’s doorbell wiring and typically respond faster. Battery models are flexible but may need recharging every few months.

Does Wi-Fi strength matter?

Yes. A strong Wi-Fi signal is critical. Check the signal near your front door or wherever you’re installing. Weak signals can cause delays or missed alerts.

Are Ring cameras compatible with the same power setup?

Some are wired and others use USB or battery. Ring Stick-Up Cam and Ring Floodlight Cam have different requirements—check before you buy or text me for help.

Do I need a new transformer for my Ring Doorbell?

Possibly. Most Ring wired models require 16–24V. If your existing transformer is too weak, I can install a new one to make sure your Ring device works properly.

What is Ring Chime and do I need one?

A Ring Chime plugs into any outlet and lets you hear the doorbell inside your home. It’s optional but helpful if your phone isn’t always nearby.
